HAPPY REPUBLIC DAY 2021
Wishing you all a very happy Republic Day !!
Republic day honors the day on which the Constitution of India came into effect, 26 January, 1950 replacing the Government of India Act (1935) thus turning the nation into a newly formed republic.
26 January was chosen as the day for Republic day because it was on this day in 1929 when the demand for full independence (Purna Swaraj) was declared by the Indian National Congress as opposed to the Dominion status offered by the British regime.
The main Republic day celebrations is held in the national capital, New Delhi. On this day, a ceremonious parade takes place at the Rajpath, which is performed as a tribute to India; its unity in diversity and rich cultural heritage. The President of India distributes Padma awards to the civilians of India every year. These are the second highest civilian awards in India after Bharat Ratna. Even children and general citizens who have displayed courage in times of adversity are conferred with awards.
But this time, due to covid pandemic several changes have been made in the celebrations :
- For the first time in the history of republic day celebrations, no chief guest has been invited to India.
- As compared to previous year's 150,000 spectators, this year only 25,000 people have been invited to witness the parade.
- The route of the parade has also been shortened and no child below the age of 15 years is allowed to parade.
- This year, the newly inducted Rafale Fighters aircrafts will also be featured in the parade.
- This year, Uttar Pradesh's tableau is featuring a model of the Ram Temple, which is currently under construction.
